It all started with an idea...

A short, interactive guide helped them discover their design style and clearly captured what they needed.

Needs

We would like to have a very minimalistic logo and house style to support our modern brand. Further personality traits we would like to express are Straightforward and Quality-oriented, but the minimalism might minimize those traits in the house style.

We named the brand “T”, the most minimalistic name we could come up with for a tea brand.

We would like you to design a logo and house-style for the tea brand.

Extra information:

Our brand values: Responsible, Down to earth, Transparent, Excellence, and Innovation.

In previous iterations we really liked just the letter “T” as the logo, with a rectangle and stripe around it to resemble a very minimalistic tea bag. We very much like this as a starting point, but if you have different ideas, we would love to see them.

I have a background as a branding strategist with some graphic design experience, and plan to give feedback on a daily basis.

Company description

We are starting a tea brand selling high quality, organically produced, hand-plucked, orthodox tea. Our tea is produced in Nepal, where we have connected with different small-scale tea farmers. We pay good prices for the tea they produce.

We are going with a modern brand as we believe that a modern brand should not only focus on high quality products, but also on ethically responsible business operations. Our tea is ‘real’, compared to many of the tea’s found in the Dutch supermarket. We are working on a promo video of the farmers plucking the tea and processing the tea further to show where our tea comes from.

We will have quite a wide assortment of tea types. We have our two ‘best’ types, which are not available all year through because of their exclusivity, called Golden Needles and Silver Needles.

Besides these, we have Black tea (golden tips), White tea, Premium Green tea, Pearl Green Tea, Green Oolong tea, Masala tea, Green Sencha tea, Bancha Green tea, Roasted Green Tea, Classic green tea, Autumn Black Tea, Himalayan Gold Tea, Himalayan Longyin Tea, Black Tea Delight.

Target group

Colors, favourites and other requirements

On our packaging we would like to show the type of the tea and year of plucking (different years have different qualities, like with wine). An idea that we liked from earlier explorations is to have a different color packaging for every type of tea.

We will be selling the tea in tin cans.

Hierbij de uitvoering in goud PMS 872, 874 en 876.
Ik ga er van uit dat er geen goudfolie op komt, dus ben van de gewone goudinkten uitgegaan.

Hoi Henkie,

Dit is wel wat heftig merken we, zou je de kleuren wat zachter kunnen maken? De rechter (donkere achtergrond met gekleurd logo) vinden we fijner passen. We zouden voor de Golden Needles een goud-achtige kleur willen gebruiken, om het de luxe uitstraling te geven.

Hallo Caspar,

Hierbij het theezakje-logo afgebeeld in verschillende kleuren.
Het zwarte is aangepast naar een donkergrijze kleur.
Er zijn helaas te veel kleuren om alle mogelijke combinaties te laten zien...

Hoi Henkie!

Zou je de soort thee ook op het blik willen zetten, het logo ietsje groter willen maken, en willen laten zien hoe je Golden Needles (onze top-thee) zou afbeelden? (inclusief de tekst "Golden Needles" om de soort aan te duiden, en "Ilam, Nepal, 2018" erbij?)

Dag Henkie,

We hebben het over je logo's gehad en vinden de weegschaal toch duidelijk niet werken. We vinden wel het theezakje leuk (de meest linkse van je 4 varianten) en zijn benieuwd hoe die, in verschillende kleuren, op een theeblik eruit zou kunnen zien.

Qua kleuren merken we dat we het zwarte logo niet fijn vinden werken (voelt te zwaar). Groen op zwart werkt wel, maar zijn ook benieuwd naar andere combinaties.

Zou je dat in elkaar kunnen zetten?

Ik vind het een interessant ontwerp maar niet modern genoeg voor ons idee :) vooral de letter t is niet minimalistisch en modern genoeg. Wel leuk dat er een theeblad in zit!

Ik zou graag twee dingen willen zien:
- zou je kunnen checken of je een variant van dit logo kan maken met een weegschaal? Fair trade draait om balans, als we dat in de T kunnen laten terugkomen zou heel cool zijn. Ik dacht, dat past in jouw ontwerp misschien wel.

- ben je goed met kleurcombinaties? De kleurcombinaties in je vorige ontwerp vond ik wat zacht, misschien kan je het daar opvallender mee maken?

Hallo opdrachtgever,

Hierbij het aangepaste logo met de naam eronder geplaatst.
Tevens het logo op enkele gekleurde theeblikken geplaatst.

Natuurlijk is alles te wijzigen, kleur, indeling etc., maar dat spreekt voor zich. Ik hoop dat u een goede indicatie heeft van het logo op het theeblik.

What we like is the different use of colours in your design.

What we would also like to see, is
-where would you "post" our name The Modern Tea Brand?
-maybe make it more rectangular in order to make it look more like a tea bag?
-Could you add some designs how this would look like on tin cans in which we aim at selling our tea? Looking forward to that!

Finally, maybe you could play around a bit with the colours of the background and logo also and show us some additional varieties of what you've done here - maybe relating them also to the different types of tea that we have.
