Needs

Vaarwinkel (http://www.vaarwinkel.nl) is our webshop. This shop is specialised in studymaterials for yachting and professional shipping. Over the last years the shop has grown and has become one of the largest online yachting specialists in the Netherlands.

Although the website works quite well and is a commercial success, we think we can do better. The last redesign was in 2010 and still works, but falls short on modern features like mobile friendly and responsiveness.

Besides this for the future we want to expand our online business to other countries and use other languages. Also we want to introduce more specialised sister websites for certain niches in our niche market, for example a specialist site for nautical clocks or chart working materials. And maybe even a nautical deal of the week site.
Those sites will be run under the Vaarwinkel label, be hosted on the same server and use the same backoffice. A good example of this strategy is the Dutch firm Coolblue (coolblue.nl) that has hundreds of specialist websites like gpsshop.nl and monitorstore.nl. Please also take a good look how their multishop strategy was translated to the webdesign.

We want to ask you to rework and redesign the webtemplate of Vaarwinkel to make it look more modern. We do not think a mayor redesign is needed and the old style should still be recognizable.

However the HTML, CSS and some dynamic behaviour needs a work-over as the pages are not mobile friendly and does not make good use of all screen resolutions nowadays available.

Behind the website the webshop is based on a Ecommercetemplate (ASP with MS SQL). But the implementation of that using the new webtemplates can be left with us.

Thus we only need a new webtemplate and 5 sample pages:

We think the best is to start from scratch and therefor we did not add the current webtemplate and stylesheets. However when needed we can provide them
Consider the current website as the design guidelines, but feel free to add improvements and modernization.

Please make a special note that the HTML that our webshop generates at the moment still uses tables and Javascript. The Ecommercetemplate allows a simple switch to convert this to CSS only.
