A short, interactive guide helped them discover their design style and clearly captured what they needed.

Needs

This is an ICT company, focussed at delivering System Integration services onboard large ships and offshore installations. This is a startup with the ambition to become a mid-sized international (global) organisation.

There is a focus on reliability, continuity and flexibility with customer satisfaction as the core focus.

The name should not be limited to the offshore industry or shipping since the services are also suitable for on-shore organisations. However, a nautical link will be appreciated.

Due to the long-term strategy, polular current terms and elements are discouraged (ie "cloud", hashtags, "e-", "i-" etc.) unless this can be interpreted as unrelated to a temporary hype.

The name does not need to mean anything specific;
The name needs to be usable on an international basis;
The domain name should be availiable in at least nl and com.
The current working name BoardSIS (On-board and System Integration Services) is excluded from this assignment.

Company description

Startup ICT integrator. This means that we will deliver ICT products and services including audit, design, test/development, implementation, migration, training, system administration and support. All this will be done with a special focus on the unique aspects appliccable to the shipping and offshore industry.

ICT integration mostly applies to IT infrastructures. Mostly this contains server systems, networks, desktop systems and technical application support. It does not involve software or application development and also does not include navigation or bridgesystems.

Core values for us are: involved, driven, reliable, personal and authority.

Target group

Offshore industry, like offshore platforms, workingvessels etc. Also the large trans-ocean vessels like container or freightcarriers. All customer contracts and contacts will be dealt with through the shippling agencies who want to have more transparency in their costbase and who want to innovate their ships.

Eens, klinkt leuk... Jammer dat dit conflicteert met supplyschepen... Seasupply wordt gebruikt voor de aanvoer van bevoorrading op schepen. Weet toevallig een bedrijf in Singapore dat zo heet in Singapore en die doen precies dat.

Uw bedrijf levert the 'Works' de infrastructuur, netwerk etc voor de Boats. Kort en krachtig.

hmm... teveel boot. Klinkt wel lekker, al klinkt het meer als een scheepsrenovatie bedrijf... We willen ook de reguliere markt kunnen bedienen en daardoor kan een naam die zich teveel koppelt aan de scheepvaart beperkend werken.
Daarnaast is een niet onbelangrijk deel van onze doelgroep geen schip, maar platform (denk aan boorplatformen ed). Dan heb je het misschien wel over aan boord, maar niet over een schip.

Anchor is anker = betrouwbaar. Rots in de branding.
-ics maakt geeft het een ICT sound.

We zijn hier verdeeld. Enerzijds niet helemaal lekker in de mond en mogelijk verwarring over schrijfwijze, maar heeft wel een goede link. Is goed los te koppelen van nautic en kun je veel kanten mee op.

Leek me vooral erg geschikt als naam omdat je er ideaal een logo mee kan maken bv nl een anker.

Verwijzing naar Sail = varen en Software en is een alliteratie waardoor t goed in de mond ligt.

Software heeft in de ICT vooral een referentie naar software ontwikkeling. Dat is niet waar we ons mee bezig gaan houden. Ik heb net een toevoeging ingediend in de omschrijving om dit iets te verduidelijken. Het is een ietwat complexe materie, maar we houden ons meer bezig met het fundament voor ICT omgevingen. Het lastige is dat veel specifieke termen lastig toe te passen zijn. Op dit moment dekt bijvoorbeeld "private cloud" oplossingen de lading. Alleen is dat een term die vergankelijk is. Over 5 jaar gebruikt niemand deze term meer want dan is er weer een nieuw stempel bedacht voor hetzelfde.

Kortom, software wekt de verkeerde associatie op.

Wel leuke combi overigens.
